Mason Frank Salesforce Survey 2018

Survey Results

Hi everyone

I always like to look through the results of the annual Mason Frank salary survey to try and get a feeling for current trends in the Salesforce eco-system.
4,354 respondents across 11 countries
If you haven't already read through it in detail, I've pulled out a few things that struck me in this year's information and I'll also link through to the full data set below.

I've blogged about the survey from previous years here, here, and here. This the 5th survey run by Mason Frank and this year the total number of data points for this survey was 4,354, across 11 different countries. It's really useful that the team at Mason stress that they filter out a lot of automated/spam type responses from the data set to ensure it's as accurate as possible.

So, what does it say?

In short, the Salesforce Eco-system has grown significantly over the past 12 months.
The survey shows significant growth in the number of Salesforce professionals, the number of projects completed (the majority of surveyed partners reported more work), and the breadth of Salesforce implementation projects around the world.

There are also some really interesting emerging trends around the types of Salesforce Product being utilized, the skills being demanded, and I particularly like the comparison of country by country skill demand and salary information. This is a key section to jump to for any Salesforce professionals who would consider a relocation in future.

The Numbers (well, some of them)

Just a few of the headline numbers that jumped out as I read through the report.

  • 77% of professionals working within the Salesforce ecosystem now hold at least one Salesforce certification
  • 39% of respondents stated their salary increased after becoming Salesforce certified
  • 64% of partners reported that the number of Salesforce projects had increased compared to last year
  • 36% of professionals expect to leave their current employer within the next 12 months
  • 65% of female respondents believe that gender inequality is an issue in their field

Top 3 Certifications gained by survey respondents

With the phasing out of the Salesforce Certified Developer DEV 401 credential it makes sense that Platform App Builder has become the second most popular accreditation in 2018.

It was interesting to see Sales Cloud coming in at number 3, with 52% of recipients indicating that Sales Cloud skills were in demand on their current projects and 44% of projects required Service Cloud knowledge.

Why did you select Salesforce?

The top reason for implementing Salesforce was the functionality of the product with 80% of respondents stating that as the reason for selecting Salesforce.com.

Other reasons given included:

  • 49% Moving to the cloud
  • 44% Lack of confidence in previous CRM
  • 38% Integration of 3rd party vendors
  • 37% Ease of user adoption
  • 32% Ease of implementation
  • 28% Cost reduction
  • 7% Post implementation support
